Rastriya Prajatantra Party chair Lingden steps down as a lawmaker

Rastriya Prajatantra Party chair Rajendra Lingden has announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament.

Lingden stepped down as a lawmaker on Sunday, saying that the government, instead of ending the term of the House of Representatives after declaring the polls, is trying to keep it even until elections.

“The decision to continue the Parliament even after November 20 has left me embarrassed,” said Lingden while speaking at the House. “That’s why I want to announce my resignation. Discontinue the salary and allowances in my name.”

The government has prepared a bill to keep the current House term until a day before the first meeting of the next Parliament convenes.

Lingden won the 2017 elections from Jhapa-3.

In the party convention held in December last year, Lingden defeated Kamal Thapa to become party chair.
